Resume Structure and Format

Keep your resume clean, scannable, and visually consistent—much like

you'd approach a digital interface. But don't go overboard with graphic elements that might confuse ATS systems.

  • Stick to 1-2 pages (1 page for junior designers, 2 max for seniors with 8+ years)
  • Use a readable font like Helvetica, Open Sans, or Roboto at 10-12pt
  • Include clear section headers with visual hierarchy
  • Maintain consistent spacing (8px, 16px, or 24px between elements works well)
  • Save as PDF to preserve your formatting
Want to stand out? Create a simple visual system with a subtle color accent (think one brand color) and consistent visual elements. Just remember: your work should do the talking, not your fancy resume design.

Profile/Summary Section

This 3-4 sentence opener sets the tone. Focus on your UX specialization, years of experience, and 1-2 standout accomplishments. For example: "User-centered UX Designer with 5 years crafting digital experiences for fintech products. Specializing in mobile-first design and design systems. Redesigned key customer journeys at TechFin, increasing conversion rates by 37% and reducing support tickets by 24%."

Professional Experience

This is where most UX hiring managers spend their time. For each role:

  • Start with company, role, and dates (month/year)
  • Add a brief context line about what the company does (if not well-known)
  • Use 3-5 bullet points highlighting your process and outcomes
  • Begin each bullet with strong action verbs (Designed, Researched, Implemented)
  • Include metrics where possible (e.g., "increased task completion by 43%")

Frame your work in terms of problems solved rather than features created. "Redesigned checkout flow based on user research, reducing cart abandonment by 17%" beats "Created new checkout page designs" every time.

Education and Certifications

List your degree(s), bootcamps, and relevant certifications. For career-changers or junior designers, highlight UX-specific courses or projects. Consider including:

  • Formal education (degree, institution, graduation year)

Keywords and ATS Tips
